Setting the Pace on Mitigating Climate Change’s Impact on Health with Chase India

Rising temperatures worsen health risks in India due to climate change. This roundtable will discuss ways to prioritise the climate-health link in India's development goals and adapt health policies to respond to climate change. The discussion also aims to leverage India's G20 presidency to develop a blueprint of policy actions and best practices.

  • Very often health is prioritised, and climate change is prioritised but the intersection of the two has not garnered enough urgent attention and much more needs to be done to prioritise it further within the Indian health and climate change ecosystem.
  • For the Government of India, health is a key priority as is reflected through the initiatives such as the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health under the National Centre for Disease Control. However, there is recognition that the prioritisation sits within certain Ministries and departments and the need of the hour is to further mainstream this nexus through stronger inter-ministerial collaboration as well as with stakeholders outside of the government ecosystem.
  • There are limited channels that collate all the credible work happening in this space and that impedes the awareness, sharing of best practices, and collaboration among various actors.
  • It was recommended that a robust platform should be built, to enable such discussions to be more streamlined and to also foster stronger collaborations and partnerships in this space across key stakeholder groups.
